Mayor Cheng Inspects Meihe Shanzhuang Restoration Project

視察歷史建築「大溪林宅梅鶴山莊」修復工程 鄭市長:搭配大溪木博館,成為大溪社區文化旅行景點

Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan visited Daxi District on November 15, 2016 to inspect the restoration of the historic Meihe Shanzhuang. The Phase 1 restoration project, with a budget of approximately NT$35.76 million, is expected to be completed by the end of 2016. The city government plans to display historical artifacts from Daxi's past and integrate the villa with the Daxi Wood Art Ecomuseum to create a cultural tourism destination.

Mayor Cheng noted that Daxi is the starting point of Taoyuan's history, featuring important cultural assets including Daxi Old Street, Meihe Shanzhuang, Li Teng-fang Historic House, and Zhai Ming Temple. The Lin Ben-yuan family (Banqiao Lin family) developed the Taoyuan area from Daxi, and Lin Deng-yun built Meihe Shanzhuang in 1869 while serving as estate manager.

The distinctive architecture features a two-hall, four-wing layout with seven-bay wide main hall, beautiful paintings and wood carvings that showcase traditional craftsmanship. The restoration follows the principle of "restoring the old as old" using original materials and techniques.
