Phase 1 Restoration Completed: Main Halls Restored
第一期修復工程完工，正身重現風華
The Phase 1 restoration of Meihe Shanzhuang was completed in November 2016. Work began in 2015 after the villa received a subsidy from the Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, and focused on the main halls (the upper and lower halls). The total budget was approximately NT$35.76 million — NT$17.88 million subsidized by the Bureau of Cultural Heritage, NT$14.3 million from the Taoyuan City Government, and NT$3.58 million raised by the owners.
The restoration followed the principle of "restoring the old as old": beyond safety considerations, original materials and traditional techniques were used to preserve the building's original character, so the restored historic building can be revitalized and put to use again.
In step with the Daxi Wood Art Ecomuseum's "Street Corner Bookhouse" concept, the owners also opened the "Zuo Qinglong Bookhouse" in the left wing, offering books on heritage restoration for visitors to browse. The city government continued negotiating with the owners to secure subsidies for the Phase 2 and 3 restoration of the left and right outer wings.
