Mayor Inspects Completed Phase 2 & 3 Restoration, Pledges Phase 4
市長視察二、三期修復竣工成果,宣示續推第四期修復
Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan visited Meihe Shanzhuang on September 18, 2021, to inspect the completed Phase 2 and 3 restoration. The first three phases are now finished: Phase 1 (the main halls, about NT$35.76 million) was completed in November 2016, and Phases 2 and 3 (the inner and outer left and right wings, about NT$70.28 million) were completed in August 2021.
The restoration work included rebuilding traditional roofing, removing inappropriate additions, re-plastering lime walls, repairing wooden components, refurbishing doors and windows, and integrating mechanical and electrical systems — bringing back the villa's original Qing-dynasty appearance.
The mayor said the planning and design for Phase 4 had been completed, and the city would continue seeking subsidies from the Bureau of Cultural Heritage. The "Street Corner Bookhouse" and parts of the complex are open to visitors by reservation, positioning Meihe Shanzhuang as a highlight of the North Cross-Island area's cultural tourism.
